This review is for Black Bull Tapas Bar, Geelong VIC

We had been wanting to try this place out for a while and decided to take advantage of the discount voucher we had in our Entertainment Book. We turned up without a reservation and the restaurant was very busy, but they managed to find a table for us down the back in a cosy corner bench seat.

We decided to order a selection of tapas and a couple of entrees, rather than mains as this way we got to taste more dishes! All were delicious, but the scallops were some of the best we have had anywhere. The other standout dish for me was the chocolate tart with condensed milk filling and persian fairy floss. Yum!

One thing we were very impressed by was the service - both wait staff that served us were excellent - friendly and knowledgable, with just the right level of attentiveness.

Atmosphere was really nice, even down the back of the restaurant! Would recommend for romantic dinners, groups of friends, parties, etc.

Looking forward to going back!

Newish café and homewares store in Belmont. The front of the shop offers stylish homewares, women's clothes and baby gifts and knitwear. At the rear is a café with good coffee and cute little cupcakes (among other things). 2 great points are that it has a kids play corner, and its open 7 days (where many cafes in the area are closed on sunday.

The only thing I don't like is that I have just seen that they are selling fur vests :( Hmmmm...

My husband took me here for my birthday dinner and we were both very impressed. The restaurant interior is subtle and elegant. The views would have been lovely too had it been light!

To start with, we found the service to be exceptional. It is always hard to find attentive service, without being obtrusive, but the waitress who was on this night (23/5) got it just right.

We were pleasantly surprised to find that they had a great special offer on of 3 courses + a glass of wine for $50 (or 2 for $40). The regular menu is quite pricey, so this offered exceptional value. On top of that, they threw in a glass of bubbles!

The food itself was the real highlight though... probably the best food we have eaten in Geelong. Every dish was outstanding and the quality of the produce was evident. The menu was mouth watering and it was hard to choose! Even without the special, I would say the food was worth the price.

Overall, we both agreed that this was the best restaurant we have eaten at in Geelong (so far!)

If you can get there while the special is on, it is outstanding value. Otherwise, this is a great special occasion restaurant. Would be a lovely venue for a function too!

My husband and I dined at Customs House on our anniversary, a couple of months ago. While we knew that cost-wise, it was at the upper end, we decided to treat ourselves (actually it was my husband's treat!).

While the decor and atmosphere were quite nice (felt like I could have been in Paris), we were rather disappointed in the overall experience.

The service started out promising, however I felt it slipped a quite a bit over the course of the evening. It was hard to catch the waitresses attention to order another drink and when they took our only half eaten entrees away, there was no question of whether everything was ok.

The food was what we were most disappointed with. For entree I ordered the prawn cocktail which really lacked flavour. My husband ordered the pork belly which neither of us finished as it was chewy and unappetising. In fact it was the worst pork belly I have had anywhere.

Mains were an improvement, however, neither had the wow factor, which at this pricepoint you kind of expect. I had the salmon and my husband had the kangaroo.

We also felt that the menu was a tad on the small side, which is fine if there are a couple of specials, but there weren't.

I can certainly see this as a very promising fine dining restaurant, however currently I feel that there is a lot of room for improvement.

On a positive note, I did love the look of the library/bar and can see this as a great place to enjoy a cocktail or dessert, and perhaps we will give this a go at some stage.

For the money though, there are far better options.

While my previous review was for their takeaway pizzas, we finally got around to having a meal in their restaurant, which I feel was quite a different experience, warranting a separate review. I had heard so many people rave about this 'institution' and understand that many people return again and again, however I was a little disappointed.

Firstly, the service was very slow. We gave up on ordering dessert as we waited too long for someone to come and ask if we wanted anything else. In the end we went up to the counter to pay as we couldn't even get anyone's attention to request out bill.

Secondly, I felt that it was not great value. The pasta dish I ordered was ok, but nothing to write home about, and the serving size was very small. I am a small eater, so it wasn't too much of an issue, but it was what I would have expected as an entrée serve.

I think we will stick to takeaway pizza!

We generally come here for a meal at least once whenever we are in Port Lincoln. Not so much because the food is amazing (though it is probably one of the better places in PL), but it is just a lovely setting out on the marina. It is 'counter meal' style, order & pay at the bar, with your standard 'pub' fare. Disappointingly they don't do as many seafood dishes as I would have expected at a restaurant on the water in the 'seafood capital', and those they do do are nothing amazing. But on the whole the food is pretty good. If you want a table out on the deck for dinner, particularly on a warm night, it is best to book ahead as it gets busy.

They offer hotel rooms and apartments too, but I haven't stayed here so can't comment.

Nice little café on Coventry Street. I have eaten here and the food was nice. They have a good menu with some nice specials too. However I mainly go here for a takeaway coffee. The coffee is good, though not incredible, however it is well priced compared to most other places and the service is great. Even though I only come here once a week, they remember my order and you are always greeted with a smile. They have a loyalty card with every 6th coffee free, so this makes it even better value. Muffins are delicious too!

We went here with our family on New Year's Eve. My husband and I are not usually big fans of Chinese food, however I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food here. We ordered a banquet and there was certainly plenty of food. The chicken/meat/calamari was all very tender and not at all fatty (which is one of my dislikes with many chinese restaurants). It was all very tasty and quite good value given that we all left very full!

The restaurant was very busy (it was NYE afterall). We had pre-booked, and they had a highchair set up for us when we arrived.

There were however a couple of things which detracted from the experience. The first thing I noticed on our way to our table was that their floral arrangement was dead! I thought surely for New Year's Eve they could have either bought new flowers, or at least removed these dead ones! Just a small detail, but still, something you notice nonetheless.

The worst part, and something which to me spoiled the evening, was that we were actually asked to hurry along as they had people waiting for a table!!! We had waited about 15 - 20 minutes for our dessert to be served, and this request was actually made while we were half way through eating it! It wasn't as though we had finished our meal and were just lingering. To me this was the height of rudeness and completely unacceptable.

The redeeming factor was that they made a mistake on our bill and we essentially got a bottle of wine for free, which we felt was compensation!

I would give them a second chance just for the food alone, but if I received service like that again I would not return.

I was lucky enough to be given a voucher for a massage and facial here by my husband. I usually like Aveda facials (there is no longer a salon that offers this in Port Lincoln as far as I am aware), however my experience here was very pleasant. The salon was very clean and presentable, with nice ambient music playing, and my therapist was very good. I left feeling relaxed and my skin felt great! The one thing I felt was missing (as included with Aveda or similar facials) was a foot soak & scrub to start the experience.

Nice little cafe with diner style seating inside and a few tables outside. Good coffee, though served way too hot for my liking. Even when I asked for it 'not too hot' I still almost burnt my tongue. Also, it is served in those nice insulated glasses, so takes forever to cool down. Unless you like your coffee scalding hot, make sure to ask for it 'warm'. Babycinos 50c. I have only eaten a ham & cheese croissant here (which was ok), so can't really comment on the food. They did have a highchair, though it was buried under a pile of stock and quite dirty. For some reason though, this is the place I usually choose when I'm having a coffee on my own!
