I liked my first dinning experience to the point when a waitress brought our order. She did not greet anyone of us, just said a title of meals, put in front of us and left... The same girl collected our dishes. When she did so, I thanked her but she did not say a word again. (Note: no, she was not international).
I purchased a voucher for 2 burgers with 2 glasses of wine in house for $20 which was a deal with sale of 50%. It was definitely a worth of trying a new place. However, I find burgers for their regular prices quite expensive. I was served with strapped Veggo burger (burger without bread but garden salad) which was disappointing in a way. I received a thin slice of haloumi, one large mushroom and some capsicum based sauce with plain salad...nothing outstanding when you calculate its value was $13.95 + $1 (for strapped version). I must admit burger bun that my partner was served with, looked fresh, fluffy and crunchy outside. Strapped version is healthier option but not so appealing and satisfactory.

I would recommend to purchase a voucher, however, would not necessarily recommend it for dinning outside of the specials / happy hours.

I enjoy going to the Coffee Club in Brunswick Street time to time. The atmosphere is very pleasant apart from road noise in workweek. Staff is always welcoming and friendly. I have been here for a couple of Saturday brunches with my partner when we would have a breakfast dish each accompanied by iced coffee or smoothie.

I had noticed a sign informing about lunch special for $10 for Monday to Friday. So I decided to explore the special with my work friend. They have a list of meals for this special price where you would find salads with meats, burgers with sides or meats with small salad & chips. As per my request, I obtained pepper calamari with double-sized salad instead of chips. Food was tasty, light but till filling. I am going to take another colleague of mine there one day, as he dislikes the franchise of Coffee Club...so I want him to learn that not all their stores are as bad as he says. You can see I would recommend going there...it is a worth of having lunch special. It is discussable if you do not mind to spend a bit more on regular meal outside of these happy hours.

This review is for Monty's Chocolates, Paddington QLD

Oh my! Thinking of my most favourites coffee shops in Brisbane, I would nearly forgot this one! What a sin!

Monty's Chocolates is a gorgeous little shop with indulgence of any kind that I felt in love with after my first visit. I purchased a voucher for tasting plate that I shared with my company. It was absolutely great experience for me...and if my company had been chocolate obsessed, I know he would have enjoyed it even more than myself.

When staff was handing in tasting plate to us, we were informed what chocolates contained and their origin. So it could be also very educational experience after all :)

I have never had better drinking chocolate than right here. It is made from proper rich dark chocolate. You would notice as times goes by and the drinks cools down, it becomes thicker... This does not happen with usual drinking chocolate...what is more it is so rich that it satisfies your chocolate cravings for good. I believe it is also quite healthy alternative of desert for the high percentage of cacao. Even a laic would recognise the difference.

They have a huge selection of tastes, flavours and shapes of chocolates. It is a heaven for chocolate lovers.

I highly recommend going there...It is a worth of spending money with your partner or family member. I do not think children would appreciate the art of chocolate flavours as such though.

I used to go here for takeaway or dinning in quite often last year, twice a month...

As far as I remember staff was incredibly nice and funny. Fish & chips, calamari and salads were always fresh and well prepared. I only preferred fish crumbed (in spite of personal preferences of grilled fish). When it was grilled, it would be done on butter and flour on surface soaking wet. They were decent pieces of fish too... We were willing to pay a bit higher price as the quality was corresponding the extra cost.

Since management changed, I have been there only once. Although staff also changed, they were still very nice...however quality of prepared food got slightly worse. I say it became very average - slightly smaller portions, greasier - for the same pricing.

My opinion is they are better and cheaper fish & chips places in Brisbane.

I visited the restaurant with my friend about a year ago when she wanted to introduce me the best fish & chips in Brisbane. She had told me about their rewards, for that reason she persuaded me to try it. I can recall, I enjoyed the dinning experience, however, probably not as much as she did...because I did not feel the urge to go back there since.
I came across reviews of the business on WOMO and decided to give it another shot. Thus, I happened to take my partner there on Sunday. Prior entering the restaurant, he registered a special on noticeboard. Two pieces of hoki fish + chips + small salad or six calamari for $25. So we made the order and paid for it at the entry. As we were entering the restaurant, there was no waiter around for that reason we chose a table on our own.

We did not wait for long. My partner was disappointed about portion size of fish. I personally would not mind it being a slightly bigger but did not dwell on it. I hardly know a place they would serve a bigger portion. I got my fish grilled and he had it crumbled. Grilled one was not greasy as some places make it. His fried fish looked nice too. Battered chips were nice but the top ones were slightly over-salted whereas the bottom ones just right. Fish as well as calamari tasted very fresh. I did enjoy the meal but do not know about it being the best fish & chips in Brisbane as I eat it very rarely.

As it was a matter of us walking to the counter, making an order and payment, I was not able to assess their service. Staff would only bring the meal to us and clean up dishes after our leave. There was no communication between...no check up on us if we enjoyed it. On our way out, I said "see you" to a waiter who was typing something in cashier...he did not respond.

What I really did not like was a noise that was caused by a group of visitors who entered the restaurant when we were in the middle of our meal. They were so loud that I thought myself if they didn't lower their voices I would've had to remind them of being aware of their surroundings.

I would recommend going there for dinning experience but cannot see myself going back there for a while. I think the service that I found being average lowers the overall experience a bit.

This review is for Cliffs Cafe, Kangaroo Point QLD

verified email - 26 Apr 2013

The strongest advantage and distinction of this cafe shop is surely its absolutely stunning location. I see it busy anytime thorough a day, especially in popular times of a day when it is due for meal.
I was one of their customers twice...just for a coffee and then for brunch. I found savoury brunch very much standard, nothing exceptional that would make me to come back. Menu is overpriced for the view at the city you can enjoy, I believe.

Considering the location, it is shocking their doors close already at 5pm Monday to Saturday and 6pm on Sunday. Definitely not cool! Large number of people come to Kangaroo Point Cliffs especially after business hours to enjoy their spare time - sport, catching up with friends, romantic dates, taking photographs of CBD. I used to live on that road for four years so I know what I am talking about. In summary I do think the business could be more prosperous if they utilise better their strength that makes them very different from others...and make their dinning more enjoyable and memorable.

This review is for Cru Bar & Cellar, Fortitude Valley QLD

verified email - 26 Apr 2013

Cru Bar is definitely a great place for business meetings, catch up with girlfriends for little meal or simply just glass of wine. I personally would not recommend to take your new date though. As much as I like their beautiful food, it can be hard to make a choice from menu that offers some unique ingredients or combinations. I witnessed my accompany had a problem...and me being honest, I would have had the same issue if I had not checked the menu prior.
I tasted their haloumi salad and chicken salad. As a matter of fact, I tried haloumi salad twice...and took a photo of it at both times. (I love taking photos in general, for that reason it is not unique to see me taking photo of my dish when dinning out). The dish contained the same amount of all listed ingredients, looking very identical but haloumi. It might have been grilled first time but fried the second round.
I absolutely loved there sauté mushrooms! If you are such a big fan of mushies, you must try these. Chips....mmmm, very big portion for just one. It is definitely something you should share.

I did not tasted but have seen "mooloolaba tiger prawns w rustichella linguini" dish which was according to my friend outstanding. I would expect a bit more of sauce. Pasta did not looked dry but too "naked" to me (trust me, I do not find pasta should be covered up by sauce either). Tiger prawns were definitely very fresh.

I was always served by a waiter who was very pleasant, even willing to help in making choice from menu. Putting in consideration the area, you would not be dinning in there regularly unless you would not care about spending over $100 easily for two.

Approximate cost: $20-40

This review is for King Ahiram Lebanese Food, West End QLD

verified email - 24 Apr 2013

I cannot tell whether it is the cheapest lebanese takeaway / dinning in place in Brisbane but I would easily believe it. Falafel kebab $4, any meat kebab is for $4.50. I used to have kebabs in DFO Airport or Carindale when needed a bite in middle of hunting for clothes. In comparison, I would pay twice as much in shopping centres or anywhere nearby CBD. What is more, kebab in King Ahiram is much healthier as meat does not taste greasy or marinated. Less than $5.00 for lunch or dinner is pretty good deal!

I also tried hummus plate and taste plate that I shared with my company. I think the cost was $10 or slightly over. Yet, you both are satisfied.

Anytime I go there, I am tempted to try some of their desserts, especially baklava that I have never had. Poppy seed cake they make is also dessert known in Czech cuisine. Although I do like it, I am not tempted to buy it here because it looks very greasy...trust me, it does not have to look greasy at all.

As others pointed out here, the service is not great but acceptable. What I particularly do not like is staff taking new orders while running behind with fulfilling the previous ones. So what happens, you can order kebab and customers who came in later would order anything that could be just put in paper bag/container and handed in...so they would serve the later customer while preparing your kebab. That process slows down service dedicated to your order, of course. You can easily end up still awaiting your order while another new three customers have been served and gone. That does not seem to be fair to me! I would think they have one person dedicated to making kebabs in peak time so customers ordering them are not disadvantaged. And yes, sometimes they are not very polite either...could be a cultural thing, who knows...

This review is for Siam Samrarn, West End QLD

verified email - 24 Apr 2013

I am not a big fan of Thai cuisine, however, when I heard about this restaurant reviewed by a friend of my relative very well, I was willing to give it a shot.
Lunch specials starting at $10 for selected dish and soft drink seven days in week is great to go for. Apart from the lunch special I have tried Salmon Choo Chee with small portion of rice from regular menu. It was a huge portion just for one person as a result I was totally stuffed. Yet, it was so delicious that I could not help myself not to eat it all.

Atmosphere in restaurant is always very pleasant, seating is original and comfortable (especially after renovation that happened a couple of months ago), well decorated indoor as well as outdoor sections...and staff always friendly.

Since I wrote this review on 24th April, Siam Samrarn changed slightly. They chanced Menu of Lunch Specials which would not be an issue if the quality remained the same. Yet, I am disappointed. There is less vegetables in Lunch Specials and majority of meals are noodles-rich. I have to take a couple of stars off :-(

Approximate cost: $16-30 ( $10 lunch specials)

This review is for Dr Nicholas Baker, Greenslopes QLD

I cannot agree with other members more! I personally have been going to this dentist for five years. He became my Australian dentist who I would even prefer to any in the Czech Republic. I was recommended to become his regular client once I heard all my family members go to him...husband, sister-in-law and both parents-in-law. And I would not be surprised if grandparents-in-law were his clients as well :-D

Dr Baker is always on time and dedicates exactly 30 minutes of his time to me that I pay him for. As my family know him for years, he always asks how they are... He is definitely not just a dentist but a very nice man with great manners.

I have been going there for regular cleaning, new fillings or replacement of metal ones. He always explains what he is going to do how....shows you scans of your teeth or even photos of your tooth before and after an intervention.

Last time I visited his clinic was two weeks ago. As I was not happy to miss work for a dentist appointment, I wished to make one for Saturday morning. Unfortunately, they did not have any availability but two months later. Dr Baker ordinates once in six weeks time on Saturday morning. I asked receptionist to place me on waiting list in case someone cancels for next month. Luckily someone did and I got to see dentist for general cleaning six weeks earlier. His assistant as well as receptionists are very friendly ladies. It is always pleasure to enter the clinic.

If you are looking for outstanding service and practice, this is the dentist to see.
