I first discovered the brilliance of the Shingle Inn after a friend bought me a cake. I was instantly impressed and bought a number of different cakes from the Brisbane store in QLD. It was a bit of a journey for a cake though, then I discovered the Mt Gravatt Shingle Inn. I like going there for a casual cake and coffee. I love the choices of cakes, patty cakes and special treats. Enjoying them with a friend is even more special.

My mother in law bought my husband a butter cream cake for his birthday from here and it was amazing! So fresh and yummy so the next time we needed a cake we went in to buy one but unfortunatly they only have these cakes pre made with Happy Birthday written on them, not really appropriate for taking to someone's house for a dinner party. You can only get it without the Happy Birthday if you pre order which I think is a little crazy but atleast I know for next time now. Either way I will definatly be ordering one of these cakes again. Also a very quaint looking little cafe for dining in I feel.

I ordered a hot chocolate at Shingle Inn they're claim is the hot chocolate is different from any other cafe. The claim is true to fame. A glass of hot milk is bought out and a small jug of hot chocolate comes out with it so you pour the chocolate in to your own taste. I tell you it was too die for. Service is fantastic, the price is reasonable and all other food and beverages are awesome as well.

I used to really enjoy having lunch, coffee and a catch-up here with my girlfriends but I was very disappointed the last 3 times I visited. The quality of the food and esp cakes is really good..tastes like homemade, even if a little overpriced.. Ordered several coffees, cakes and added a " baby-cinno" for my little 3 yr old daughter as a treat last week..was charged $2.70 for what is essentially milk-froth with a bit of chocolate powder dusted on the top...The unfriendly assisstant asked if I wanted marshmallows and I said "Yes Please"..was charged 70 cents for 2 normal marshmallows...just a bit O.T.T I think. Didn't say anything as didn't want to spoil the outing etc but won't be back...staff were unfriendly, not a single smile..actually felt like a nuisance!! Pity as the food is yummy...staff need to realize that their customer service leaves a lot to be desired...probably better to buy the cakes and take them home or go elsewhere to eat them. Shame as the cafe itself is quite inviting...

The Shingle Inn at Garden City is one of the better Shingle Inn franchises. The cakes are unique, especially the lemon meringue pie. The coffee is great, the sandwiches fresh and delicious and the meat pastie has great "home style" pastry. Although not the cheapest dining in Garden City, I recommend trying the Shingle Inn as a special treat. The cakes are like my mother used to cook and there is nowhere else in Australia like this store. The name "Shingle Inn' is iconic.

Approximate cost: $30.00
