My husband and I visited Kryal Castle recently, it only re opened three months ago and the staff are doing a fantastic job. It has scheduled events through out the day so there is plenty to do or you can explore the castle at your own pace. They are even incorporating more activities like face painting and story time for the children to make it more family friendly. There are however some things not appropriate for children like the torture chamber but still plenty for them to enjoy. We really enjoyed our visit especially the jester's theatre, weapons demonstration and the knights of the round table. Looking forward to going back and taking the children I am sure they will enjoy it especially the lolly shop.

Kryl Castle Looks great and some of the tales you hear sound great. I found it ho hum even as a child. I went again in my 20's and had lunch in the restaurant.
When I took my kids again years later, there was Lion's caged up, not attractive! They enjoyed it but were always looking for more. My son took part in a Hanging, so that entertained him, I can't say I was impressed with this and he had a few bad dreams because of it for a few night's.
The jousting was interesting but I found myself explaining most of it to my kids and when it was done in history, I don't think that was explained very well seeing as there was kids there, they thought it was all real.

After hearing of this place many times over the years, I thought I'd give it a go and take some overseas guests there for a day trip on-route to Ballarat.

It was average as the place needed an upgrade.

Staff were friendly and helpful, giving us with information etc.

We have often driven past the Castle and thought about staying one time. We did just that in the off season (winter). There were no shows during our stay, but it was nice to be able to wander around the grounds and the exhibits. Accommodation was pleasant. The rooms were decked out as if they were in a castle of yesteryear with four post beds and furniture from the era. At night we could see the lights of Ballarat from our bathroom window. Breakfast was included in the onsite cafe each morning, and was very good. Only down side was that the rooms were very drafty and we had to block the gap under the front door from the wind. Worth a look.

I don't like writing bad reports but there is nothing good to write. The place is very expensive to get in to. The day we visited two of the entertainers were not present (jouster and magician) and the person who stood in for them – whilst did an adequate job, was not nearly to the standard that we expected (or paid for!) The place hasn't been maintained very well at all. I think this might well be a dying tourist attraction. Sorry!

A lot of people don't realise Kryal Castle also offers bed & breakfast style accommodation with spa suite. We stayed there, and it was perfect, great value for money as the tariff also include entry to the castle during day time and a cooked breakfast.
