THIS is the kind of Butcher you want at the end of your Street. If he hasn't got it. He will have next time. True Blue Aussie Butchers are almost extinct. Not at 'Five Ways' shopping precinct Wattle Park. Get your pre Sunday Roast mittens in there Kitty.

Sigh. I know Fish and Chips here doesn't need reviewing. Trouble is when your Fish and Chips are SO GREAT, it pays to phone ahead as waiting in the 1970's time warp shop is very cold in winter, very hot in summer and a little like I imagine Pukin's Winter Garden Party to be like in terms of 'atmosphere'. Oh and, is it just me or does Fish and Chips go up at 5 times inflation. I miss 50 cents worth of chips. My hips don't though.

Approximate cost: $15

This little place has to fight for attention of 5 meeting busy roads. This shopping centre used to be called "Five Ways Wattle Park". Decades ago. You know I would love to send the folk who run this Cafe on a "how to make your own great food and great coffee" course. I really, really want this business to be great. But it only just meets the criteria for a place to make your regular lunch stop. Where did that Epicure Fairy go...?

The worn out stone steps to this bakery say it all. The locals would rather you don't. They don't like waiting in line for their French Vanilla Slice. But they will if you make them - before they all run out. You know I just wish they bought back the good old Cream Puff. Two sponge circles cradling raspberry bakers filling and real cream lightly dusted with pure icing sugar. Now there's a cake. Introduce yourself to the shy folk. If you go there twice - on the second time they will remember your name.

If you thought great gelato ran out at the end of the tram lines in Victoria. Nah -uhh. This is your "ridgy didge" I'm coming back here again, smooth, tasty, melt in the mouth, stuff.
Am still hanging out for the day they get adventurous and do a 'Liquorice" flavour. But I say that about EVERY Gelato maker worth walking 100 miles for.

Well here it is. Swan Hill's gastronomic 'hat trick'. Great Food - highlighting local produce, great views (how 'mighty' is that Murray) and great service. My hat goes off to them. This is one to plan your meal at if on the road. You will not be disapointed.
