I've been going to J's for a while and have seen the place steadily declining!

Since they've expanded the restaurant they have increased their pricing AND taken items off the 'all you can eat menu'.

They are also rationing some items, I asked for an extra serve of Gyoza and was told there was a limit of one per table (there were six of us at the table!)...doesn't sound like 'all you can eat' does it?

Also they charged extra for the green tea ice cream which used to be included.

the food itself is always good with the exception of sushi that's been sitting in the fridge a bit too long.

Possibily the last time I go there.

Great value! There was only 2 of us and they still gave us ample proportions.

We had read all the good ratings on WOMOW and decided to check it out ourselves. The restaurant is very non-descript and don't expect any fancy decor.

We thought we would order a large range of different dishes between the 4 of us to get a real feel for it. I have to say that every single dish we ordered was delicious!! We had Sushi, Sashimi and California rolls (these are not like the dry boring ones you get at a shopping centre). We then had Tempura Prawns (yum) followed by a beef salad with sesame dressing that was extremely tasty. We then had some Gyu Don (beef) and Teriyaki Don (chicken).

We had definitely over-ordered but we ate every last bit because it was so nice, and the food worked out to less than $20 per head - amazing! Then they offered us some free (that's right free!) vanilla and green-tea ice-cream, some seasonal fruit and a bowl of lollies. Such a rare thing to be given something for free these days.

More restaurants should learn from these guys, that a lot of goodwill can be gained by giving something that doesn't cost you much away for free. We will be taking our kids back with us next time cos it seems to be very family friendly. You would be wise to book because it was practically full on a Wednesday night.

I don't know how these guys do it at the price. I feel really bad when paying the bill, like I've ripped them off! The food is sensational. Highly recommend the beef salad. Other comments about the sushi and sushimi being pre made are harsh - you can't expect them to be made on order in such a busy place, otherwise you wouldn't get your meal within 5 or 10 minutes like you do. They make it fresh that morning.

It's small but they have now bought the shop next and expanded, so much better now. I can't fault this place for value and service, and the quality of the food is outstanding at the price. Yum.

My family (and now my boyfriends family) love this place! Book ahead. The all you can eat is value for money if you have a big appetite. Otherwise if we are going as a group we order a bunch of different dishes and share! Brought out quickly and you can order as you go. A fun night out.

JJ's is fantastic – it’s a stepford wives meets quentin tarantino experience that just can’t be replicated. As you try and snag a seat in the retro dining area the size of grandma's kitchen the sashimi chef, who commands full view of the room, goes right at it with razor sharp blades moving at blistering speed, purposeful in a way only the Japanese can be, while the light sweat on his brow seeps slowly into his rising sun headband.

Service:

The service was fantastic, if you are being serve by someone who speaks English. We had 3 waitresses, 1 can speak a good English, 2 who we need to repeat ourself a few times.

Food:

The sashimi and sushi were below average, the salmon and tuna were not fresh.

(good)

- The prawn tempura was excellent. When we order the second serve of the Prawn tempura, they gave us heaps of them.

- The Nasu Dengaku was great. We ordered 4 serve of those

Overall:

For the price they charged, I would prefer a normal Japanese restaurant in the city. Probably will cost us a little more, but at least we getting the quality.

The place is tricky to find at first, because Were street is very dark at night, and the restaurant is right in the middle, next to a milkbar. In terms of the facility, it's more like a home-based restaurant and they extended the capacity from 20 people to about 70 people. The food is great ,fresh and tasty. The Tempura and Unagi are not to be missed. But I think they are hugely understaffed. It was so crowded and hectic that our orders got lost a number of times, and we ended up waiting forever for our food, which is a bit sad. However, the service deserved some credits, it was a busy saturday night and the staffs were still nice and polite, considering all the pressure they were in. One suggestion is to come in early, around 6-8 oclock, if you come in later than that, they'll start to get short on supplies and eventually ran out of food, especially the likes of sushi and sashimi.

The food is fresh and as soon as the waiter takes your order for your meal it comes out straight away!

Its only 25 per head ! and you can order anything on the menu!

Once we reached there, we were served with miso soup and some beef salad, followed by 2 platers full of sushi and sashimi followed. If that was not enough, the chicken and salmon teriyaki would also make you wanting for more. By this time, we were quite full already but they keep serving us with great tasting prawn tempura and takoyaki balls. I cannot remember what I had for my desert but that was great as well. We can choose either ice cream or sorbet, and they are homemade by the way. Overall, very satisfying experience and looking forward to go again
